Barbara Salani was born from Italian parents in Caracas, Venezuela, and graduated with honors at the Conservatory "Juan Manuel Olivares" under the guidance of professor Gerty Haas. This diploma was validated as equivalent to Diplomas awarded in Italian Conservatories by the Ministry of Education. In 1981, she moved to Philadelphia, USA, and graduated in Musicology at the "Philadelphia College of the Performing Arts", currently "University of the Arts", while studying with the American concert pianist Susan Starr.

She received the "Who's Who among students in American Universities and Colleges", the "Dean's List Award of Merit", and she was awarded with the "Honorable Mention" in the "International Piano Recording Competition", in Austin, Texas, U.S.A.

In 1986 she moved to Viareggio, Italy, where she attended Master Classes with world renowned pianists such as Michele Campanella, Rossana Bottai, Alexander Lonquich, Daniel Rivera, Hector Moreno and Norberto Cappelli. She has been the featured soloist with numerous orchestras, including the Orquesta Filarmónica de Caracas, the New England Orchestra, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Maracaibo and with the Symphony of the Americas. She was a guest in several radio and television broadcasts and has performed in Venezuela, the United States, Italy, Spain, France and Greece.

 

Since 1991, she has performed in piano duo with Laura Helman, pianist and teacher from Argentina. The Duo was awarded at the International Competition Citta' di Moncalieri, and performed in different locations in Italy and Europe, with enthusiastic approvals by audiences and critics. In addition, Barbara directed and conducted the "Choir and Orchestra Don Bosco" for 6 years with great success in the Versilian community.

 

Since 2015 she lives in Boca Raton, USA, where she is sponsored by the Symphony of the Americas and carries out numerous musical activities (both educational and concert-related). Recently she was appointed as "Coordinator" by the Musicfor Team for a music teaching project at the "Boys and Girls Club of Broward County".

 

Barbara Salani is member of Musicfor through which devotes much of her musical activity to the support and development of music in disadvantaged areas in the world (Mozambique, Haiti, Angola, South Africa) building music schools , purchasing musical instruments, provisioning scholarships and the realization of chamber and symphonic orchestras. Thousands of children have thus the opportunity to approach music and broaden their perception and their perspective on life.
